Furness and South Lakeland visit neighbouring Lancaster and District Group.

garstangAs part of an initiative to extend the Masonic friendship between our two neighbouring groups of lodges a visit was arranged for members from lodges in the F&SL Group to visit a selected lodge in the L&D Group in a social and cordial way.

This was the very first such visit and, on Wednesday 8th February, a final total of 14 masons from 6 different lodges in the F&SL Group travelled to Garstang to visit the Great Eccleston Lodge No 8895 for their regular monthly meeting. We were made to feel most welcome by the Lodge and were witness to a most excellent initiation ceremony for brother Stephen Fisher who, coincidently, revealed that Barrow was in fact his home town.

The visiting team were shown full support for the idea of exchanging visits between our groups by the attendance of both Group Chairmen, W Bro Jim Wilson Chairman of the L&D Group and W Bro Peter Schofield of the F&SL Group. W Bro Scott Devine, who is to be congratulated for his rendition of the first degree and charge, also requested guidance from the F&SL Group in identifying a lodge in our Group who could suitably receive a reciprocal visit from the L&D Group.

On our journey home it was agreed the visit had been a resounding success and plans will now progress for a second visit later in the year. Initial discussions have already been made with a target lodge to visit and a letter will be sent to all F&SL Group secretaries advertising the visit in the near future.

The organisers thank all who joined in and of course the WM and Brethren of Great Eccleston lodge for their warm and sincere welcome. It will be hard to better that.
