Assistant Provincial Grand Master Keith Kemp made his way to the Market Hall in Hawkshead to lead the celebrations as George Blenkarn marked his golden jubilee as a member of the craft.
Keith was welcomed to the meeting by WM David Cole and as is usual on such occasions accepted the gavel when it was offered to him. George was placed before Keith who gave an insight into the life of George and in particular hisMasonic career. He had served the lodge as WM of Hawkshead Lodge No 4354 in 1977 when he was installed by his father. Amongst the positions he held in the lodge was that of treasurer. Group chairman Peter Schofield was on hand to read the commemorative certificate from the PGM which was presented to George by Keith.
An accountant by calling George has enjoyed an active life with hobbies including fell walking, potholing and water skiing. For a few years he resided in a 16th century farm house in southern France. To mark the occasion David presented George with a cheque for £200 which at his request was made out in favour of Prostate Cancer Awareness.
